ENGLISH: This artwork consists in creating a connection between two cities: Merida, in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, and Beijing, China. This connection consists in a simultaneous celebration that was transmitted via Internet in both cities.
The main reason for this connection are the similarities found between these two places and their cultures, which are based on recent investigations that claim that the Chinese where the first to arrive on the American continent, centuries before Columbus, which would indicate that modern Yucatecans are direct descendants of Chinese explorers. In Mexico, September is it’s Patriotic Month (Mexican independence day is September 16th), and we, as Yucatecans, should consider that Spain isn’t our only motherland.
